Kathryn I. Thompson
Kathryn I. Thompson is a founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Thompson Research Group. In addition to managing and setting the direction of the firm, Thompson also serves as Director of Research. She brings over 15 years’ experience analyzing, modeling, and advising mutual funds, hedge funds, and pension funds on investment and portfolio management. Thompson was recognized by The Financial Times/Starmine as a top Stock Picker in Construction Materials in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018 (an annual ranking of top performing analysts). Prior to founding TRG, Thompson was an equity analyst at Avondale Partners and BB&T Capital Markets. A graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee and Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management, Thompson is a regular guest speaker at industry trade conferences and corporate meetings. She has been a guest on CNBC, Fox Business News, Bloomberg and is quoted regularly by The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Forbes, Fortune, and Bloomberg.
Christopher E. White
Christopher E. White is a founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Thompson Research Group. Mr. White oversees day to day operations as well as running the firms consulting and federal and state regulatory policy practices. He has over 20 years of industry experience as an investor, general manager, and business builder. His career began at Smith Barney's Strategic Planning Group where he supported the executive management team in setting firm-wide and department goals monitoring monthly company performance, and integrating acquired companies. Mr. White subsequently completed the Capital Markets Program and became an equity trader on the firm's institutional desk. After leaving Salomon Smith Barney, he founded the listed trading and capital commitment effort at both SunTrust Robinson Humphrey and Avondale Partners where he also served as Managing Director, Head of Trading and was a member of both the Investment Policy and Capital Commitment Committees. Mr. White left Avondale in 2009 to found TRG. He holds a BS degree in Finance from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Senior Equity Analyst
Steven Ramsey is a Senior Research Analyst covering the Construction Equipment, E&C, Household Goods & Services and Office Furniture industries. Prior to joining TRG, Steven held an internship with Balestra Capital, a hedge fund focused on global macro investing and fund of funds management. Prior to his position with Balestra Capital, Steven held an internship with the Ministry of Finance in Rwanda, Africa where he assisted in developing reports on economic trends for government publication. Steven graduated from Harding University with a B.B.A. in Finance.
Associate Equity Analyst
Brian Biros is a Research Analyst at TRG and previously interned with TRG while pursuing his MBA. Prior to joining TRG, Brian worked for Deloitte Financial Advisory Services performing data analytics on complex litigations and bankruptcies. Brian also worked at Time Warner performing analytics across the media company's finance and operations departments. Brian holds a BS and MS in Finance from the University of Delaware and an MBA from Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management.
Jonathan Pierce is an Institutional salesman at Thompson Research Group. Prior to joining TRG, he held an institutional sales position with Roth Capital Partners in Newport Beach, CA, a small-mid cap focused research firm covering the Consumer, Industrial, Energy and Healthcare sectors. Previously, he was with Global Hunter Securities, an Energy-focused research firm, and Wells Fargo. Jonathan earned his BSBA degree in Finance from Auburn University.
Rick T. Johnson
Director of Consulting
Rick T. Johnson is the Director of Consulting for TRG. Rick is tasked with leading the development of the consulting group while providing assistance with primary research. Prior to joining TRG, Rick worked in finance and business development at Lend Lease and KB Home. Rick has extensive experience with public private partnerships, design/build contracts and residential construction. He holds B.S. degrees in finance and engineering management from Towson University and the University of Arizona. He also holds his MBA from Belmont Universities Massey School of Management.
Lisa Klyse is is an Institutional liaison at Thompson Research Group, handling West Coast clientele for the firm. She has over 15 years of financial experience dealing with institutional investors. Prior to joining TRG, she was a sales assistant on the desk of BMO Capital Markets in San Francisco, CA. Lisa earned her BS degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
